For those of you who have not read my book yet, I am completely against circumcision. It is an out dated practice that has no valid reasoning. Thankfully I had two daughters, so I did not have to deal with the issue personally… not too much anyway. Their father (now my ex-husband), was ‘done’ as a baby and insisted that if we had boys they would be done. We spoke to the doctor about it early in my first pregnancy. He advised we would find it very difficult to find a doctor that would perform the procedure. This was 22 years ago, in Canberra, Australia.
I started researching it after the discussion with the doctor, and the more I read, the more I opposed the whole idea of it. I tried to discuss it with my husband, but he would not even consider changing his mind.
It’s like future family photos would be taken of their penises and if they did not match, that was unacceptable, how ridiculous!
There are still people who choose to circumcise their new born baby boys. It is a barbaric, cruel mutilation of a perfectly formed part of a human. It completely disregards the needs and wants of the little boy who will one day become a man. The foreskin protects the glands (head) of the penis, the glands are quite sensitive and much of his sexual pleasure will emanate from here. Removing the foreskin will desensitise his pleasure zone and potentially cause him physical and psychological pain in the future.
Yes there are occasionally medical reasons to remove the foreskin, and so it is done. But applying the logic of our pioneering forefathers with today’s available knowledge is ludicrous.
Below is a link to a funny and factual short film about circumcision… enjoy!
